Instead of taking one photo, with high-dynamic range, you take many pictures of the same scene at different exposures. HDR photography uses technology to overcome this problem. And exposing for the shadows will make your highlights too bright. It’s not possible to get the settings just right in one image. One of them will suffer.Įxposing for highlights will make your shadows too dark. This means that you cannot expose for the highlights and shadows at the same time. Our eyes have a stunning dynamic range which no camera can ever mimic.Ĭameras are limited in their dynamic range. We tend to see HDR images more appealing, and it’s because of the greater range of luminosity. Images with a high dynamic range have detailed highlights and shadows. Dynamic range refers to the range of light between shadows to highlights. HDR is an acronym for High-Dynamic-Range imaging. It makes Capture One a more approachable, usable and professional tool when dealing with your images. HDR and panorama tools were something I had asked for since I started using Capture One. Having these tools inside of Capture One - and not requiring someone to go to Photoshop or another program - means that Capture One is listening to its customers. But adding tools like Stitch to Panorama and Merge to HDR mean that Capture One is realizing where its holes are. What this means for Capture One going forwardĬapture One has grown in popularity over the last couple years, mainly due to its professional toolset. These cameras have not fully been tested, but offer the same protocols. Canon 1Dx III (WFT-E9B adapter recommended for optimal performance)Ĭapture One 22 also offers preliminary support for the Canon R6, EOS R, 5D IV and 90D.Canon 1Dx II (WFT-8B adapter recommended for optimal performance).Canon R5 (WFT-R10 grip recommend for optimal performance).Below is a list of supported Canon cameras: Fingers crossed this comes to other cameras as well, like those by Sony and Nikon. There’s also a second option, called Merge to HDR with Default, which automatically adjusts and aligns your images without asking.Ĭertain Canon cameras can now tether wirelessly with Capture One 22. First, called Merge to HDR, gives basic auto adjust and auto align options before merging your images together. How HDR merge works in Capture One 22Ĭapture One 22 offers two options to create HDR images from bracketed files. So I went back to using Lightroom Classic after a few months. This added to my development time, further delaying photo delivery for my clients. This forced me to send my bracketed photos into Aurora HDR, which wasn’t a native plugin for Capture One and was overkill for what I was trying to do. I could bring up the shadows and tone down the highlights more effectively, the contrast adjustments were more life-like, and being able to fine-tune edits with Layers was a huge plus.īut there was one glaring omission for me - the lack of HDR support. I decided to try Capture One, and was immediately blown away by how much more I could get out of the files. When I used to photograph with Olympus cameras, I had trouble getting the most out of my RAW files. I got a first look at Capture One’s newest software, and was particularly interested in the new HDR and panorama tools. Included are much-anticipated HDR and panorama merge tools, along with wireless tethering for select Canon cameras, auto rotate and more. This morning, Capture One released the latest version of its software, Capture One 22.
